Running Through a Fulfilled Life

Weeks 28-31 Update

Oh my, oh my.  How the third trimester has come and laid the boom on me.  It was like the power of suggestion of entering the 28th week alone was enough to make my body go into slo-mo.  I feel quite sloth like, like a sloth travelling through quicksand with a giant belly sack strapped to the front.  My energy has gone downhill.  My running has gone way downhill.  My ability to tie my shoes has gone downhill.  I don’t even bother painting my toenails anymore because, why bother, I can’t see them anyways and it’s in the middle of winter.  At least I am starting to see the light at the end of the pregnancy tunnel, with only 9 more weeks to go.

There is still a lot to get done before than, too.  Cleaning off baby things, arranging the nursery, packing a hospital bag, pre-registering for the hospital and organizing all the 0-3 months baby clothes.  As the queen of procrastination, I’m sure this will all get started at approximately Week 37.

Baby #2, however, is doing fantastic and continues to grow like a weed.  At 31 weeks, Baby is measuring 16 inches in length and weighing 3.3 pounds and is approximately the size of a coconut.  This is funny to me, because my stomach resembles more of a small globe at this point, so baby to stomach ratio is probably 1:3.   I have yet to experience any Braxton Hicks contractions at this point, but I never had any with J either, so who knows.  I’m just hoping that my body, this time around, decides to prepare itself better for laboring.

Let’s watch my belly grow, why don’t we?!

Until next time…Belly Out!

28 Weeks

Well hello there Third Trimester!  You certainly came up very quickly!  It’s crazy to think that this journey is now approaching the home stretch and that we will be meeting our newest member of the family in July.  I am pretty sure the thought of this is already stressing out both Hubs and I, but I choose to just say “namaste” and be in bittersweet denial.

This week, Baby Mason weighs 2.25 pounds and is the size of a Chinese cabbage (which is apparently what this leafy concoction is)

This week, the only new changes I have noticed seem to be more sleep related.  I can no longer sleep longer than about 7:15 AM or else I am awakened to a tap dancing chorus along my belly.  It’s really hard to ignore it, because all I feel is 1-2-3 KICK, 1-2-3 KICK.  I think it’s the baby’s way of saying “get up and feed me, now! and by feed me, I mean shove food down your throat hole mommy”.

This past week I also had to endure a series of stabs to arms from my favorite Lab.  Since I apparently have been feasting on too much ice cream, I managed to ever so slightly fail my 1 hour glucose test and had to take the 3 hour test.  Nothing better than spending an entire week freaking out over the fact that you somehow possibly drew the unlucky straw of gestational diabetes.  The 3 hour test was quite terrible.  First, I had to fast for about 12 hours (which is a recipe for nausea for me).  Then, I was presented with the sugary drink.  Instead of the orange flavor I had been given for the 1 hour test, I could only have fruit punch.  The first 3 sips were fine, but the rest of it was like trying to down a bottle of Dimetapp.  Ugh.  Over the course of the next two hours, I kept burping up syrupy fruit punch nastiness.  The worst part was having to sit.  And sit.  And sit.  I am not a big sitter.  Especially not for 3 hours.  At least I got caught up on all my TV shows via the IPad, but believe me, it was torturous.  Plus, with each passing hour I noticed I was feeling a little more tired, lethargic, and light headed.  Also, apparently I bruise easily even with the smallest of needles, so by the time I was done they were both sore and looked like someone had beaten my elbows with a stick repeatedly.  Nice.  The only small victory in this whole thing was that I didn’t get sick or pass out.

The call on Thursday was like having the weight of the world taken off my shoulders.  I had passed.  I will still plan to be careful with all the sugary sweets, but at least now I don’t have an all out ban on them.
